Flight Data Transmission

FDT offers different types of Ultra Quick Access Recorder (U-QAR) Usable on all mandatory FDR-CVR and CVFDR Systems.

FDT offers different types of Ultra small Access Recorders (uQAR), which can be used with all mandatory FDR, CVR and CVFDR Systems. The uQAR can also be installed on the FDAU system.

The FDT U-QAR solution is unique!

uQAR has the following features:

  • Easy-to-install, directly installed on FDR front panel or on the back of the FDR;
  • No additional rack, no drillings and no complex wiring are required.  Installation of the uQAR is done in less than one hour;
  • uQAR installation is a minor modification to the aircraft and doesn’t request any STC.
  • Continuously records Flight Data Information; uQAR’s memory storage capacity is a minimum of 5 000 flights before overwriting the oldest data files;
  • Designed to send Flight Data to Aircraft Operator’s central server automatically;
    The uQAR has embedded Wi-Fi and optionally LTE communication connectivity, allowing for complete and secure flight data transmission after each flight (if this setup is requested by the airline). Data transmission can also be done “on demand”, by using a mobile phone after an aircraft or a helicopter has landed;
  • The uQAR comes in different versions (version 0,1, and2). Upgrade from one version to the next is also possible;
  • Upgradable to a SATCOM solution.

The uQAR offers clients to choose between 3 main versions:

       uQAR0 – Simple, flexible, secure and efficient.

This uQAR is offering a large data storage capacity(more than 5,000 flights). The Wi-Fi source is embedded in the uQAR.   Secured Data Download is done using a smartphone, a tablet or a laptop, which are connected to Wi-Fi. There is no need for a memory card, which often gets lost or damaged, or duplicates and loses data.

       uQAR1 – Simple, flexible, and efficient, with automatic secured data transmission.

uQAR1 Includes the feature of uQAR0, AND has an integrated automatic detection of the aircraft landing AND sends data automatically to airline’s central server.  The uQAR1 automatically connects to secure predefined modems and automatically sends data files to the airline’s central server (depending on uQAR’s configuration).  The automatic transfer of data from the uQAR is configured to define the time when to transmit flight data and the frequency of flight data transmission. For example, the uQAR can be pre-set to transfer data after each flight or after a given number of flights.    
Using uQAR saves you the need to acquire a storage medium to be moved around, removes the need for technical people who transfer the data files, and allows for the Flight Data to be analyzed on time!

       uQAR2 – Simple, flexible, efficient, with automatic secured data transmission combining Wi-Fi and LTE.

On top of what is offered in uQAR1, the uQAR2 integrates Long Term Evolution (LTE), which is a 4G wireless network for smartphones and mobile devices. LTE allows to communicate and transmit data in locations where an Airline Modem is not available. Like the uQAR1, the uQAR2 is configured to define the time when to transmit flight data and the frequency of flight data transmission. For example, uQAR can be pre-set to transfer data after each flight or after a given number of flights.

Using uQAR saves you the need to acquire a storage medium to be moved around, removes the need for technical people who transfer the data files, and allows for the Flight Data to be analyzed on time!

The uQAR can be upgraded anytime to real-time data transmission by adding the FDT SATCOM modem and the FDT-Iridium data plan.
The uQAR is available for all existing FDRs, including the Honeywell SSFDR 4700 series, L3Com FA2100 series, and many more. The same uQAR can be used with a different set of connectors for the FDAU and FDR of western built aircrafts (Boeing, Airbus, Embraer, Bombardier, Gulfstream, Fokker, Falcon, Bell Textron aircraft, Lockheed Martin, etc.),and  for the eastern built aircrafts (Antonov, Ilyushin Tupolev, MI-xxx helicopters, KA-xx helicopters, etc.).

Air operators that work with a mix of fixed wings, rotary wings, and a mix of western and eastern built aircrafts, can use the same efficient technology on all their aircrafts.

The uQAR from FDT comes in different models. Depending on the FDR configuration, it can also be installed on the aircraft’s FDAU when requested.

The uQAR’s shapes and models depend on their level (level0,1, or 2) and also on the type of connector being used for the uQAR.

HOW IT WORKS

Throughout the length of the time that the FDR is powered on, the uQAR continuously copies the flight data information.
At the time when the aircraft arrives at its gate, the embedded Wi-Fi of the uQAR detects the network connection and automatically transmits data to the Airline operator’s central server.

Depending on the desired configuration requested by the airline, you can automatically download data of the last flight to the benefit of an automatic flight analysis from FDM. You will be able to send the crew a flight debrief right after the flight.
